LONG TIME GONE But I’m Back In The Saddle Again

It’s been nearly 6 months since my last blog post and a lot has happened in that time. I went on hiatus for the summer knowing that my wife & I would be putting our house on the market and moving 500 miles away from New York, the place I’ve called home for my entire life. I figured 3 months would be enough time to plan, pack & get settled but, as John Lennon once sang, “life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.” A couple of family emergencies led me to refocus my priorities and music took a back seat throughout the summer and beyond. I’m happy to report that the situation is mostly under control, which is all that really mattered to me.

Not only was I unable to write my blog, but I also had little to no time for listening to music or playing the drums. Fellow musicians and anyone with a similar passion will understand how out-of-sync I was. My wife & I decided early on that we would find a rental property as we got to know our new hometown, which meant that my media room/man cave, with walls of CDs, LPs, box sets, surround sound audio system, drumkit, etc., would be on indefinite hold. It also meant that my music collection would be stored in boxes until we buy a house where I can set up a new-and-improved audio/video space. That’s the situation I currently find myself in, and the following photos should give you a sense of the room I left behind.

Anyone who has ever stopped by this blog knows that my main purpose is to revisit complete discographies a few albums at a time, usually focusing on the lesser-played artists in my collection so I can gain a new appreciation for them. I’m not sure the experience will be quite as satisfying without access to physical product, so until things are back to normal I will shift the focus of KamerTunesBlog to other music-related topics that I hope you find enjoyable. I may also revisit the catalogs of some of my favorite artists (something I never planned on doing when I started the blog) since I already know their music so well and can simply listen to the digital copies I have on my hard drive.

The most important & enjoyable aspect of writing this blog is interacting with fellow passionate music fans, and that’s what I’ve missed the most during my extended absence. I see this as an ongoing conversation with friends I’ve (in most cases) never met. I hope my enthusiasm is contagious and I look forward to reconnecting soon.
